Marine Mammal and Seabird Surveys, Minas Passage. Minas Basin Pulp & Power Co. Ltd. 2008-ongoing.

Monitoring surveys of marine mammals and seabirds in Minas Passage and adjacent areas have documented baseline abundance and species composition. Observations are the first for the Minas Passage and will be used to determine changes resulting from installation of experimental tidal turbines there.

Underwater Photography and Video Surveys of Minas Passage. Minas Basin Pulp & Power Co. Ltd. & Fundy Ocean Research Centre for Energy. 2008-2009.

Drop-camera surveys of the seabed for interpretation of seabed geology and benthic community distribution, used for site selection for experimental berths and cable routes for Nova Scotia’s tidal power demonstration facility.

Database of Fish Eggs and Larvae Distributions on the Scotian Shelf and Adjacent Waters. Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Environmental Studies Research Funds. 2003-2004.

Prepared an electronic database of distribution and abundance information on fish eggs and larvae, from literature and re-analysis of research survey data, to be used by researchers and the oil industry as an information source in environmental assessment of offshore projects.

Effects of Oil and Remediation on Shoreline Vegetation of the Upper St. Lawrence River. Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Québec Region. 1999-2000.

Measured and compared biomass, size, and species composition of freshwater marsh plants subjected to an experimental oil spill and subsequent remediation treatments.

Seabed Biological Communities of Sydney Harbour, Nova Scotia. Fisheries and Oceans Canada. 1999-2001.

Assessed biological species composition and community structure to determine composition of biological communities and key factors influencing their distribution in a contaminated Nova Scotia harbour.

Assessing the Longterm Impact of the Black Point Ocean Disposal Site, Saint John Harbour, on Seabed Biological Communities. 2001.

Seabed biological communities in the vicinity of the Black Point ocean disposal site were compared with those found in a study conducted in 1992, and at several distances from the disposal site, to determine both longterm changes and local effects on the biological community.

Assessing the Potential for Reducing Chlorine Disinfection at the Colchester Wastewater Treatment Facility. Horner and Associates. 1998.

Reviewed data from monitoring of fecal coliforms in the Salmon River estuary to model and determine recent impacts of different levels of treatment, and assessed potential consequences of reduction in disinfection.

Assessment of the Effects of the De-icing Compounds Sodium Formate, Potassium Acetate, and Calcium Magnesium Acetate and on the Aquatic Biota at Halifax International Airport. 1990-1994.

The study looked for biological effects of runway de-icing compounds on streams receiving airport runoff.

Evaluation of Biological Data Collected at Public Works Canada Ocean Dumpsites in 1990-1991. Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. 1992.

Compiled and summarized biological data from 57 Public Works Canada dumpsites in Atlantic Canada. The study used a statistical procedure to identify key types of animal communities at the dumpsites, and to highlight major environmental influences on the distribution of animal communities.

Survey of the Use of CFCs in the Automotive Sector of Major Urban Centres in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Environment Canada, Dartmouth. 1994.

Carried out a mail and telephone survey of service stations, automotive parts and supply operations, and associated businesses to determine use patterns, quantities of refrigerant used, awareness of environmental concerns, and mechanical defects in auto air conditioning. The survey targeted operations in the Halifax/Dartmouth/Sackville, and the greater Moncton and Saint John areas.
